The replacement SPOT unit showed up in the mail yesterday. I unpacked it and I think it's a new unit and not refurbished, which makes me happy...
Since the subscriptions are based on the unique device number, I was wondering how to switch from the broken one to the new one. I couldn't find anything on the site about it, so I gave customer support a call.
I was on hold for about 30 seconds before someone picked up, and she immediately knew what I wanted to do. Five minutes later the GPS and message lights were flashing a nice happy green on the SPOT and I had an email with my coordinates - everything was working perfectly.
So... despite a bit of hesitation from the first unit dying in less than a week, I'm pretty impressed with the service I got. The new one is going to get driven around this weekend and hopefully it'll work like a champ.
I also got an email today from Happy Trail - my panniers and rack shipped today. That was a lot faster than I was expecting!
Now, if the weather would start cooperating, things would be perfect!
