It's also still too cold to get the KLR running and ride it to work, which is really disappointing. It's okay in the afternoon, but in the mornings the roads are covered in ice...
On the upside, I think I've finally worked out my route:
My mother-in-law suggested that if Bella Coola was where I needed to be at a particular time, then maybe I should add another day in the area. Since I'm also really looking forward to the ride between Williams Lake and Bella Coola, I decided to add another stop - this one at Anahim Lake. That way, I'll have more time in the area, more wiggle room if I fall behind earlier in the trip, and - maybe best of all - I'll wake up and be fresh for when I ride Heckman Pass.
I'll have more time to stop and take pictures, too.
So, the west-bound schedule is now:
Day 1: Winnipeg, MB -> Brandon, MB
Day 2: Brandon, MB -> Oyen, AB
Day 3: Oyen, AB -> Canmore, AB
Day 4: Canmore, AB -> Valemount, BC
Day 5: Valemount, BC -> Clearwater, BC
Day 6: Clearwater, BC -> Williams Lake, BC
Day 7: Williams Lake, BC -> Anahim Lake, BC
Day 8: Anahim Lake, BC -> Bella Coola, BC
Day 9: Bella Coola, BC -> Port Hardy, BC (Ferry ride)
Day 10: Port Hardy, BC -> Victoria, BC
I'm hoping that both the temperature warms up a bit and I get a couple of minutes to sit down and work out more of the trip plans. There are a couple of factors that will determine how long I hang out in Victoria; once I know those details, I'll be in a better position to plan my route and schedule back home.
