After a very, very hectic and discouraging evening yesterday, I finally got on the road today. Mrs. HAL was, frankly, an amazing help in making everything work. I wouldn't have been able to get the trip going without her help. If you read this, THANK YOU!!!
Crash was also a huge help today, helping me prune the tools and spares I didn't really need or wouldn't be able to use anyway from my kits (if you read this, you got me that 20lbs I needed!)
The bottom line - the KLR and I are safe and healthy in Brandon and are just about to turn in for the night.
Got gas on the way out of Winnipeg, last tank was 52MPG. Not bad.
Just outside of Brandon, saw a sign that said, "Next 20km fresh oil and sand on road". Met a nice guy who I've decided to call Barry (no idea if that's his real name):
After meeting Barry, I got to follow a pilot vehicle behind a truck that was dumping sand on the road. Oil and sand - my two favourite surfaces to ride on.
Got into Brandon at about 8:30PM, and all is well. Had a good chat with my parents, it was great to see them again.
If all goes well, I'll be on the road around 7:30 tomorrow morning, and my next stop should be in Oyen, Alberta!
Safe riding!
Odometer reading now: 10768.5km
Distance today: 204.5km
Distance so far this trip: 204.5km (trip started at 10564.0km)
